Beta Update
It's been just over a week since we launched the beta and so far we have had no reports of any serious injuries. There are a couple of consistent bug reports so I thought I might mention them here.
Getting "Connect Failed" on the connection dialog
We got a few people who could not get the connection to the service to work after installation. We think this is related to a file locking issue during the startup of the Hyperoo windows services. We were able to fix the issue by restarting the Hyperoo 2 services one at a time.
The Hyperoo File System Component is Unloaded
This error may appear in the Activity Log of the Hyperoo Client shortly after installation and causes Live Backup to be reset. It is happens for some users because part of the installation is failing and as a result the Hyperoo file system driver does not get installed. There is a workaround for this which is as follows:
In the Hyperoo Program Files directory (normally C:\Program Files (x86)\HyperooSoftware\Hyperoo 2.0) there is a folder called Driver64 (or Driver32 for 32bit OS), go into that folder and right click on Hyperoo.inf and select Install. After that, type sc start hyperoo at the command prompt and you should see a message confirming that the service has started. If this was successful, then restart the Hyperoo2Client windows service. You should be good to go after that.
Buttons look grayed out or disabled
Some of you aren't keen on the color scheme of our buttons finding that they give the impression of being disabled or hard to read. We'll be making a slight change in the next update to make them easier to read.
We have also received some good feedback relating to non-Hyper V backup scenarios and as a result of this we are making optimisations for backups containing very large numbers of files. This involves making some breaking changes to how we handle storage of Hyperoo 2 data files so the next update(s) will probably require that you uninstall before updating.
Rest assured we are working hard to get the next beta update tested and out the door very soon.
Thanks for all your help so far!
